New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The forthcoming trip of Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to Berlin has ignited a new wave of political controversy. BJP MP Tejaswi Surya stated on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi is a “non-resident Indian politician” who spends more time abroad than in India.
This statement comes as Gandhi prepares for a significant event with the Indian Overseas Congress in Berlin on December 17, where he is set to engage with IOC leaders from various European nations.
While addressing the media outside Parliament, BJP MP Tejaswi Surya remarked, “Rahul Gandhi is a non-resident Indian politician. He lives abroad more than he does in India. His mind is abroad, but he is forced to do politics here.”
He further critiqued Gandhi for taking a 5-6 day leave during an active Parliament session, asserting, “An ordinary MP would find it impossible to leave during such crucial times. India deserves a resident Indian Leader of Opposition, someone genuinely invested in this country.”
Tejaswi Surya expressed hope that when Congress returns to the Opposition in the next term, they will elect a more committed LoP.
Additionally, he challenged the Opposition's claims of 'vote theft', stating, “We have dismissed these allegations, and even the Supreme Court has ruled against them. If Rahul Gandhi has any proof of vote irregularities, why not take it to the courts?”
Surya criticized Gandhi's tendency to speak out in Parliament and during press conferences without taking substantial action, stating, “Your seriousness is reflected in your overseas trips. As LoP, he is neglecting Parliament when it is in session.”
In a recent speech, Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission (EC) of collaborating with the ruling party to “undermine Indian democracy”.
