Is Rahul Gandhi a Non-Resident Indian Politician?

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The forthcoming trip of the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, to Berlin has ignited a new political controversy. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya stated on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi is a "non-resident Indian politician" who spends more time abroad than in India.
This statement arises as Gandhi prepares to participate in a significant event for the Indian Overseas Congress on December 17, where he is slated to convene with IOC leaders from across Europe.
While addressing the media outside Parliament, Tejasvi Surya remarked, "Rahul Gandhi is a non-resident Indian politician. He resides abroad more frequently than he does in India. His thoughts are overseas, yet he is compelled to engage in local politics."
"During a session of Parliament, it is unfeasible for a typical MP to travel abroad on leave. Nonetheless, even after assuming the role of LoP, Rahul Gandhi continues to exhibit a lack of seriousness by taking a 5-6 day leave during the session. India deserves a resident Indian Leader of Opposition, someone who genuinely cares for this nation and approaches their duties with dedication," he added.
Furthermore, Tejasvi Surya commented on the Opposition's accusations regarding 'vote theft', stating, "We have thoroughly dismissed these allegations, and even the Supreme Court has rejected them. The populace in Bihar has also turned down these claims. If Rahul Gandhi possesses any evidence of voting or electoral fraud, why does he not take it to court?"
"Post-elections, there are legal avenues available for filing complaints in any court. I have yet to hear of the Congress lodging any election petition following the Bihar elections. Merely shouting in Parliament, conducting press conferences, and disseminating falsehoods will not lead to reforms. Your commitment to these matters is evident in your international travels. As the LoP, you are avoiding Parliament while it is in session. I believe even schoolchildren who lack interest in studies maintain better attendance than Rahul Gandhi in Parliament," he added.
After accusing the Election Commission of "colluding" with the ruling party to "undermine Indian democracy" in his speech to Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi reiterated on Wednesday that the BJP was transforming the ECI into a mechanism for "vote chori".
