New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi's remark labeling the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat as treasonous ignited a significant controversy on Wednesday, prompting a defensive reaction from senior BJP officials, including Union Ministers and national spokespersons. A multitude of Congress leaders united to endorse Rahul Gandhi's condemnation of the RSS chief, ensuring that the BJP does not monopolize the narrative. From former Chief Ministers to senior party figures, they affirmed his assertions regarding the danger posed to the country’s institutions and criticized the RSS leader.

The dispute erupted this morning during the inauguration of the new Congress headquarters located at 9 Kotla Road in the capital. Following the inauguration, Rahul Gandhi targeted both the BJP and RSS, accusing them of seizing control of every institution in the nation.

“We are now opposing the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian state itself,” Rahul Gandhi declared to the assembly of party leaders.

“The timing of our new headquarters is significant. Just yesterday, the RSS chief claimed that India did not achieve true independence in 1947. He stated that genuine independence was realized with the construction of the Ram Mandir, suggesting that the Constitution does not symbolize our freedom,” he added.

He further remarked that such statements could be considered treasonous, and that the RSS chief would face arrest and trial in any other nation.

Numerous Congress leaders speaking to IANS supported Rahul Gandhi’s assertion regarding the struggle against the Indian state, reiterating that the institutions of the country are under siege from the BJP-RSS coalition.

Bhupesh Baghel, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, commented: “Mohan Bhagwat's statement, which Kangana Ranaut also referenced, was initially dismissed by many, but it is not insignificant. She claimed India attained independence in 2014, while according to Bhagwat, it will be achieved in 2024, indicating that these individuals have no connection to the independence movement.”

Sachin Pilot, former Rajasthan Deputy CM, stated: “There are ongoing efforts to undermine Constitutional institutions unethically. The trust that should exist in entities like the Election Commission is eroding. We demand transparency and accountability. Queries posed outside Parliament should be addressed. Institutions must remain impartial, transparent, and credible, and we will persist in our fight for these principles.”

Ajay Rai, Congress in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, asserted: “RSS members have solely worked to fracture the country and have contributed nothing but pushing the nation into decline.”

Another Congress figure, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, remarked: “His statement clearly indicates a lack of respect for the Constitution or Independence. Such language reveals his mindset…”

Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the RSS chief followed the latter’s comments on Monday, where he stated, “The consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya should be observed as 'Pratishtha Dwadashi' as it signifies the 'true Independence' of Bharat.”
