Bengaluru, March 22 (NationPress) A significant downpour hit the IT hub of Bengaluru, providing some relief from the oppressive summer heat. However, this rainfall led to substantial traffic disturbances on major roads, particularly those leading to the Bengaluru International Airport, due to flooding and disorganized vehicle parking.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted overcast conditions with potential rainfall extending until March 27.

In response to the heavy rains, airport officials redirected 10 flights to Chennai, greatly inconveniencing travelers. Both Air India and IndiGo airlines issued alerts to passengers regarding the disruptions caused by the weather, urging them to verify flight statuses and consider rebooking options.

IndiGo provided an update via X, stating, “We aim to keep you informed that air traffic congestion in Bengaluru is beginning to ease. However, it may take some time for the flight schedules to return to normal due to the ripple effects of the prior adverse weather.”

“We suggest staying updated on your flight status before heading out. In case of cancellations, you can choose an alternative flight or easily claim a refund through our website. We are dedicated to facilitating your travel as smoothly and safely as possible,” it added.

Air India noted, “Flight operations are currently affected by severe weather in Bengaluru, leading to air traffic congestion. We recommend all passengers to check their flight status prior to arriving at the airport.”

The heavy rainfall has resulted in significant waterlogging across various neighborhoods. Roads in Ramamurthy Nagar, KR Puram, Kasturi Nagar, and other city areas have been flooded, causing traffic delays.

Traffic authorities have advised drivers to proceed with caution.

In Yelahanka, the intense rains caused disruptions, with rainwater flooding over 10 homes. The summer showers also led to the collapse of a boundary wall near Byatarayanapura in Yelahanka, completely submerging the roadway.

Waterlogging near the MMT bus stop on the route from Kasturi Nagar to MMT Junction (KR Puram) is impeding traffic towards Whitefield, Mahadevapura, and KR Pura, causing severe traffic jams in the IT corridor.
