Bhopal, Sep 30 (NationPress) A new spell of rain is poised to impact Dussehra festivities throughout Central India, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate showers, along with thunderstorms, across the region until October 5.
The festive mood, particularly for outdoor celebrations and the Ravan Dahan ceremonies scheduled for October 2, might be hindered due to ongoing wet conditions.
As per the IMD's recent bulletin, a cyclonic circulation over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and nearby regions is affecting the weather in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Maharashtra.
This system is set to maintain rainfall activity for the next four days, with isolated heavy showers anticipated in some areas.
The timing is particularly troublesome for communities gearing up for Dussehra, a festival symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
Usually celebrated with large public gatherings, parades, and effigy burnings, Dussehra heavily relies on favorable weather. However, forecasts indicate that many districts may need to either scale down or move events indoors.
“In Madhya Pradesh, cities such as Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur are expected to experience intermittent rain,” stated senior weather scientist Divya E Surendran.
With temperatures hovering between 28–30 degrees Celsius, the IMD has also cautioned about gusty winds ranging from 30–50 kmph, which could create safety hazards for temporary structures and open-air stages.
Local authorities are on high alert, advising event organizers to devise contingency plans.
“We are closely monitoring the weather. Should the rain intensify, we may need to postpone, as relocating the Ravan Dahan to a safer venue is nearly impossible,” remarked an organizer of the festival at BHEL Bhopal Dussehra Maidan.
While the rain offers a break from the lingering heat, it also raises concerns about traffic jams, waterlogging, and diminished attendance at cultural programs.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local advisories and adjust their plans accordingly. As the weather remains uncertain, the essence of Dussehra will rely not just on tradition but also on resilience and adaptability in facing nature's whims.
