Jaipur, Jan 14 (NationPress) On Wednesday, the Congress party organized a protest rally in Dhorimanna in response to the recent alteration of the boundary lines between Barmer and Balotra districts, claiming that the BJP-led Rajasthan government is motivated by political interests.
Senior Congress officials cautioned that if they regain power, this decision will be revoked.
A large crowd gathered at the "Jan Aakrosh Rally" (public outrage rally), indicating significant local discontent regarding the exclusion of Gudamalani and Dhorimanna from Barmer district and their reassignment to Balotra.
Former minister Hemaram Choudhary had already been on a dharna since the announcement of these boundary changes, advocating for their reversal.
During the rally, State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Jully, former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, MLA Harish Choudhary, and MP Ummedaram Beniwal collectively urged the state government to promptly retract the decision.
They alleged that the BJP administration breached regulations during the reorganization of Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies, attempting to manipulate district boundaries for electoral advantage. The Congress leaders warned that such actions would ultimately backfire politically.
“The government mistakenly believes it can gain an electoral edge by changing district lines, but this will become its gravest error. The electorate will respond appropriately in the forthcoming Panchayati Raj and municipal elections,” they asserted.
Later in the evening, following requests from party leaders, Hemaram Choudhary decided to suspend his protest. Leaders reassured local residents that the matter would not be overlooked, reiterating that if Congress forms a government in 2028, Gudamalani and Dhorimanna would be restored to Barmer district.
While addressing attendees, Dotasra characterized the upcoming local body and panchayat elections as a “call to end BJP dominance” in Rajasthan.
He accused the government of operating in a dictatorial manner under the pretense of delimitation and administrative restructuring, asserting that public dissatisfaction is escalating statewide.
Leader of the Opposition Jully claimed that the administration is favoring select industrialists through questionable land allocations in districts such as Barmer and Jaisalmer, warning that these actions would cost the BJP its political power.
Sachin Pilot asserted that the Congress would vigorously address this issue in the Assembly and expressed confidence that the party would reclaim power in the state shortly. The rally highlighted the growing political tensions in western Rajasthan concerning administrative reorganization and its effects on the local populace.
