Rajasthan Heat Wave: Barmer Hits 42.9°C, Dust Storm Alert Issued
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, April 17 (NationPress) The Jaipur Meteorological (MeT) Centre has issued a warning for dust storms and light rain across eight districts in Rajasthan, as temperatures in Barmer district soar to nearly 43 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates that a minor weather disturbance could lead to thunderstorms with gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h, along with occasional drizzle in the areas of Alwar, Deeg, Jhunjhunu, Khairthal-Tijara, Kotputli-Behror, Sikar, Hanumangarh, and Sri Ganganagar.
Despite this brief weather activity, significant relief from the ongoing heatwave is unlikely. Forecasts indicate that temperatures in western Rajasthan will persist between 41 and 43 degrees Celsius in the coming days, remaining above average. The state is expected to stay largely dry from Friday until April 22, with cities like Barmer and Jaisalmer likely experiencing temperatures exceeding 43 degrees.
While a mild Western Disturbance is becoming active, its effects are expected to be limited, offering little relief from the intense heat.
In the Jodhpur division, only partial cloud cover is predicted, with minimal temperature variations.
On Thursday, temperatures in 10 cities crossed 41 degrees, and 16 cities, including Jaipur, reported maximum temperatures near the 40-degree mark.
Barmer recorded the highest temperature in Rajasthan at 42.9 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Jaisalmer at 42.8 degrees Celsius. Bikaner reached 42 degrees, Kota hit 41.6 degrees, Nagaur recorded 39.5 degrees, Churu registered 42.4 degrees, Sri Ganganagar noted 42 degrees, Sikar reached 40.2 degrees, and Jhunjhunu marked 39.9 degrees Celsius. Jaipur continues to face escalating heat, with the maximum temperature reaching 39.8 degrees, which is about two degrees higher than normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 24.4 degrees.
The Meteorological Centre indicated that a weak system may lead to isolated thunderstorms and some drizzle in parts of Jaipur on Friday. At 7:00 a.m., the temperature was recorded at 28 degrees. The maximum temperature is projected to reach around 39 degrees, while the minimum may hover close to 25 degrees.
Meteorological Centre Director Radheshyam Sharma noted that a mild Western Disturbance has activated, resulting in the current weather changes across Rajasthan.
