Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 14 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, proudly introduced the inaugural electric vehicle model from Honda Cars India -- the Honda 0 Alpha -- in a meeting with the company's delegation at the Chief Minister's Office in Jaipur.
This electric vehicle will be produced at Honda's facility located in Tapukara, with manufacturing operations expected to commence later this year.
CM Sharma emphasized that this decision marks a significant achievement for the state, asserting that Honda's selection of Rajasthan for its first electric vehicle production underscores a growing global faith in the state's investment strategies.
He recalled his invitation to Honda's key leadership during his visit to Japan in September 2024, ahead of the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, encouraging them to invest in electric vehicle production in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of “Make in India for the World”.
The Chief Minister assured Honda of complete governmental backing regarding infrastructure and policy support for electric vehicle manufacturing.
Sharma reaffirmed that the state government is dedicated to advancing green energy and sustainable transportation while simultaneously creating job opportunities. He highlighted that Rajasthan's extensive potential for solar energy, paired with electric vehicle production, would greatly enhance the state's economic development.
Furthermore, he mentioned that Honda aims to develop its Tapukara facility into a significant center for electric vehicle production, which could draw additional investments to the EV sector and bolster Rajasthan’s position in India's dynamic automotive landscape.
Focusing on the state's initiatives to foster electric mobility, the Chief Minister noted that the government is introducing subsidies for electric vehicle purchases and establishing charging infrastructure through a streamlined process.
As part of the state's vehicle scrapping policy, incentives are also available for disposing of vehicles older than 15 years and acquiring new ones.
Honda representatives informed the Chief Minister that the electric vehicle models manufactured at the Tapukara plant will serve both domestic needs and international markets.
According to Takashi Nakajima, the Tapukara facility is a crucial production base for Honda in India, generating vehicles and components for both local and global markets. He added that Honda has established a robust automotive ecosystem in Rajasthan through its supplier network and two-wheeler manufacturing.
The meeting included senior officials, such as Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, along with members of the Honda delegation from Japan.
