Jaipur, June 19 (NationPress) The Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena conducted an unexpected inspection of a fertiliser manufacturing facility in Udaipur on Thursday, revealing extensive adulteration in organic fertilisers.
During his visit, the minister personally examined and gathered samples of single superphosphate (SSP) fertiliser from the Patel Phosphorous Company located in Umra. While holding a handful of the product, Minister Meena asserted: "This is adulterated."
He disclosed that his department had received numerous complaints concerning the quality of organic fertilisers produced and sold.
"These companies are blending substandard materials into organic fertilisers and selling them to unsuspecting farmers," he stated.
The minister pointed out that sample tests conducted in May had already indicated inferior products. Despite previous warnings and a six-month subsidy suspension from a central team, many manufacturers had not improved their practices.
“The government of India subsidizes Rs 328 per 50 kg bag of SSP fertiliser,” the Minister explained.
“However, these manufacturers are taking advantage of this subsidy by supplying low-quality goods, consequently cheating farmers and misusing government support.” According to test reports, a sample taken on May 12 revealed only 8.5 percent phosphorus (the required level is 14.5 percent), on May 14, the sample contained 6.36 percent phosphorus, and on April 30, the level was just 7.2 percent phosphorus.
“The use of low-grade rock phosphate is prevalent,” the minister emphasized, highlighting that such fertilisers are "ineffective for farmers."
Meena confirmed that 11 samples collected from the factory failed quality checks.
“None met the standard. Farmers are not receiving effective fertilisers,” he stated.
“We hold no ill will against manufacturers -- our goal is to enhance the sector -- but we will not tolerate deceit.”
The minister vowed that inspections would persist throughout districts to combat counterfeit fertilisers and seeds. Reflecting on past incidents, he remarked: “We will not permit a recurrence of the Kishangarh scam, where DAP, SSP, and MAP were misbranded merely by altering colors -- black, white, or brown.
“We are resolute in ensuring that only authentic products reach farmers,” he concluded.
