Rajasthan Police Warns Residents About Cyber Fraud as Festive Season Approaches

Jaipur, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Rajasthan Police issued a crucial advisory on Friday to inform residents about the risks of cyber fraud that may arise during the upcoming festive season - Christmas and New Year.
The advisory highlights the dangers of scams that could involve congratulatory messages, gift links, and fraudulent updates concerning PAN cards.
Hemant Priyadarshi, the Director General of Police for Cyber Crime, stressed the importance of public awareness in combating cybercrimes.
He pointed out that scammers frequently take advantage of festive times like Christmas and New Year, distributing malicious links across platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, and Facebook.
“These links may promise gifts or suggest upgrades for PAN cards, but their true purpose is to deceive unwary users,” stated DGP Priyadarshi.
He further warned that clicking on these links could lead to exposure to malware, jeopardizing personal and financial data.
DGP Priyadarshi urged the public to refrain from interacting with such links or succumbing to tempting offers from unfamiliar sources.
The advisory also identified a recent tactic employed by cybercriminals related to a supposed upgrade to a digital PAN card (PAN 2.0).
The DGP clarified that the Central Government has not initiated any such program.
He recommended that citizens depend solely on the official Income Tax Department website for any updates or applications regarding PAN cards.
Residents who fall prey to cyber fraud are encouraged to act quickly by reporting the incident via the cyber helpline number 1930, the cybercrime portal, or at their nearest police station.
