Jaipur, Dec 22 (NationPress) A widespread protest unfolded across numerous districts of Rajasthan on Monday, opposing the endorsement of mining operations in the Aravalli mountain range.

Protests took place in Udaipur, Jodhpur, Sikar, Alwar, and other locations, where demonstrators clashed with law enforcement at various sites.

In Udaipur, members of the Congress party along with various social groups gathered at the Collectorate to express their dissent.

During the rally, chants against the mining decision erupted, resulting in confrontations between protesters and police. Several activists were taken into custody to manage the situation.

Supporters from the Congress, Karni Sena, and other community representatives rallied at the Udaipur Collectorate, demanding the repeal of the controversial court order and warning of escalated protests.

In Sikar, environmental activists and locals convened at Harsh Parvat, standing at an elevation of 945 meters, to oppose mining in the Aravalli range. They urged the government to promptly overturn the decision to safeguard the delicate ecosystem.

Meanwhile, in Jodhpur, NSUI members scaled police barricades during their demonstration, prompting law enforcement to use a lathi charge to disperse the crowd as tensions rose.

In Alwar, Tika Ram Jully, the Leader of the Opposition, vehemently criticized the mining decision, labeling the Aravalli range as the “lungs of Rajasthan.”

“This decision must be revoked. Should the government fail to do so, the Congress party will instigate a massive protest. We will not permit the destruction of the Aravalli range,” Jully asserted.

A Supreme Court ruling dated November 20, 2025, classified only landforms exceeding 100 meters in elevation as part of the Aravalli hills.

Environmentalists argue this definition excludes over 90% of the range from protection, raising significant alarm.

Jully accused the government of attempting to obliterate Rajasthan’s natural legacy, pledging ongoing resistance.

Environmental advocate Pawan Dhaka raised concerns about wildlife survival if the Aravalli range is compromised. “Humans can rebuild after displacement, but what about the animals?” he questioned.

Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav addressed the situation regarding the Aravalli mountain range in a letter titled “Ek Patti Alwar Ke Naam.”

In the correspondence, he reassured that the Aravalli range is entirely secure and emphasized that the Supreme Court's decision balanced environmental conservation, prevention of illegal mining, and development needs.

In response to concerns from various factions, the minister noted that Alwar is a vital part of the Aravalli mountain range and hosts significant natural and heritage sites, including the Sariska Tiger Reserve and Siliserh Lake.

“The conservation and development of these regions are non-negotiable,” the MP stated in his letter.

Yadav reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to preserving the ecological balance of the Aravalli area while ensuring lawful and sustainable growth.
