New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) In an important turn of events, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Shukla as a Permanent Invitee to the Congress Working Committee.
General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal announced, “The Honourable Congress President has named Rajeev Shukla as a Permanent Invitee of the Congress Working Committee, effective immediately.”
Shukla was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh in June 2022.
This appointment comes in light of the recent meeting of the District Congress Committee (DCC) Presidents, which aimed at reinforcing the party organization at the grassroots level, optimizing voter list verification, and enhancing various operations.
During the meeting on Friday, Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the vital responsibilities that district presidents hold in disseminating Congress’s ideology and initiatives to the public. He highlighted the necessity for continuous election readiness, noting that the Congress must be fully prepared for the forthcoming Assembly elections.
He remarked, "Congress must persist in its struggle against the anti-people and anti-Constitution ideologies of the BJP-RSS. Addressing public concerns is crucial." Kharge also referenced the party's resolution to designate 2024-25 as the year for organizational strengthening during the Belagavi convention.
Kharge criticized the Modi government for prioritizing communal polarization over public welfare, stating, "The government focuses on divisive politics rather than the well-being of the people. They evade discussions on pressing issues like inflation, unemployment, and economic instability in Parliament, yet hastily engage in debates on Manipur under the cover of darkness." He urged district presidents to vigilantly oversee election processes and prevent any tampering with voter lists.
In a significant meeting held in Delhi on Thursday, senior party leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and K.C. Venugopal, deliberated on empowering district-level leadership.
This initiative aims to improve accountability and participation, with district presidents being assessed based on multiple criteria, including voter engagement, election success, and participation in party activities.
This transition is part of Congress's larger strategy to strengthen its presence and efficiency at the grassroots level.
