Mallikarjun Kharge Disbands Complete Congress Unit in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi, Dec 6 (NationPress) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced on Thursday the disbandment of the entire Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) unit in Uttar Pradesh, which includes the district and block units, effective immediately, as stated in a press release.
This move is perceived as part of the party's strategy to reorganize its Uttar Pradesh unit and gear up for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state scheduled for 2027.
In an official announcement, AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal validated this decision, affirming, "The Congress President has sanctioned the dissolution of the entire state unit of the PCC, along with the district presidents and Block Congress Committees of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect."
With immediate effect, all committees, sub-committees, and district-level units of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee have been dissolved, leading to the cessation of posts for all previous officials, executive committee members, and leaders with special responsibilities.
The Congress's outcomes in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, along with the 2022 Assembly elections, were lackluster. As a result, the party aims to re-establish its presence in Uttar Pradesh, which was historically a Congress bastion.
However, under Kharge's guidance, the venerable party is focusing on promoting youth and grassroots leaders. The party leadership believes it is crucial to rejuvenate the old committee and infuse it with new energy.
The 403 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh will be pivotal in the forthcoming elections. The goal of this organizational shift is to fortify the Congress at the local level.
The party will appoint new leadership that can better comprehend local issues. Concurrently, measures will be taken to enhance the accountability of previous leaders. This resolution by Congress is expected to have a significant impact in Assembly seats within the state where the party currently holds limited sway.
New committees may be established to maintain a balance between youthful and seasoned party leaders in Uttar Pradesh.
Congress will now aim to rebuild its organization in both rural and urban areas of the state while being mindful of caste dynamics.
Earlier, on November 6, Kharge had disbanded the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), inclusive of its district and block units, marking a significant restructuring initiative.
This immediate decision was aimed at overhauling the party's framework in the Congress-led hill state, which had not undergone significant reorganization since the establishment of the party's government there.
