Key Takeaways
Rajkot, February 21 (NationPress) - The city of Rajkot in Gujarat is gearing up for transformative urban development projects that aim to enhance the living standards of its residents, aligning with the state government’s 'Ease of Living' initiative.
The upcoming projects feature a cutting-edge sports complex, a convention center, modern residential units, a water filtration plant, and a lion safari park.
The Rajkot Municipal Corporation is expediting construction efforts throughout the city, focusing on housing, bridges, and roads.
Officials have stated that upon completion, these new facilities will offer citizens modern infrastructure and recreational options.
As per municipal authorities, an international-standard sports complex is being established in Ward No. 17.
This complex is designed with international competitions, including the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, in mind, providing high-level training facilities and a competitive atmosphere for athletes in Rajkot and the greater Saurashtra region.
Additionally, the housing infrastructure within the city is undergoing upgrades. The municipal corporation is finalizing 1,010 EWS-II type housing units in the Railnagar area, facilitated by the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme, with a total investment exceeding Rs 119 crore.
These housing units will feature rooftop solar systems, water and drainage pipelines, gas connections, automated lifts, rainwater harvesting systems, DG generators, fire safety measures, children’s play areas, and integrated amenities such as anganwadi centers and shopping facilities.
The government has also earmarked funds for a contemporary convention center and a facility for working women.
The hostel, budgeted at Rs 49 crore, is currently under construction. Rajkot's prominence as an industrial hub in Saurashtra, particularly in the auto engineering and MSME sectors, has influenced the prioritization of these facilities.
Furthermore, the city’s water infrastructure is being expanded to accommodate its increasing demands. A 50 MLD filter plant is planned at Nyara, along with an underground sump with a capacity of 34.272 million liters and a pump house.
In Madhapar, a ground service reservoir of 24.19 ML and an elevated reservoir of 3 ML are under development at a cost of Rs 31.75 crore, with the associated pumping station now operational.
Meanwhile, the Lion Safari Park project is advancing swiftly. Completed work includes the construction of the compound wall, a five-meter-high chain-link fence for the safety of both animals and visitors, night shelters for the animals, internal park roads, and an inspection road outside the park.
Once finalized, the safari park is anticipated to be a major attraction for the city’s residents.
Officials emphasized that these projects are complementary to ongoing infrastructure improvements such as Atal Sarovar, AIIMS, the international airport, and various flyovers, which have collectively enhanced urban living conditions in Rajkot.
