Haldwani, March 21 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday emphasized the significant accomplishments of the BJP's “double-engine” government in Uttarakhand, focusing on areas such as tourism, infrastructure, employment, women's empowerment, and the welfare of ex-servicemen, while commending Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for his leadership.
While speaking at an event in Haldwani to celebrate four years of BJP governance in the state, Singh remarked, “I pay my respects to the courage and spirit of the people of Uttarakhand. This land is profoundly intertwined with faith, devotion, and spirituality... the Devbhoomi... and its inhabitants hold great reverence for the divine.”
“I am well-acquainted with the character of the people here. The residents of Uttarakhand possess a gentle nature. Nevertheless, I have observed that in times of need, this gentleness transforms into a profound sense of strength and resilience, akin to the mountains themselves, which is unique to Uttarakhand,” he continued.
The Defence Minister noted that the “sacred land” of Uttarakhand injects renewed energy into India's spiritual essence.
“This land has been home to sages for generations. If any state exemplifies a place of asceticism in India, it is Uttarakhand. The tradition of knowledge, devotion, and respect among its people charts a path for the nation,” he added.
Commending Dhami's leadership, Singh stated, “Since Pushkar Singh Dhami took office as Chief Minister, he has initiated numerous development projects for the state. I told the people during the elections that regardless of who wins, it would be under Pushkar Dhami's guidance that the BJP would triumph. And indeed, the BJP secured a clear majority.”
“He is not just an ordinary Dhami; he is a ‘Dhakkad’ Dhami, and now he should be referred to as ‘Dhurandhar’ Dhami,” he remarked.
“No one could have envisioned such a government accomplishing so much in a relatively small state like Uttarakhand. Today, the state has reached numerous milestones across various sectors. I believe the government led by Pushkar Dhami, which has completed four years, merits a round of applause for its efforts,” he stated.
Reflecting on the BJP's governance in Uttarakhand, the Defence Minister added, “Whether it's infrastructure, tourism, employment, or women's empowerment, Pushkar Singh Dhami has made substantial contributions in all areas.”
He also honored those who fought for Uttarakhand's formation, describing the state as not only a Devbhoomi and Tapobhoomi but also as Veerbhoomi (land of heroes).
“In addition to being a Devbhoomi and Tapobhoomi, Uttarakhand is recognized as the Veerbhoomi of our nation. When it comes to safeguarding our borders, our brothers and sisters from Uttarakhand have made the ultimate sacrifice,” Singh stated.
On welfare initiatives for ex-servicemen, he highlighted, “Under PM Narendra Modi's leadership, the long-standing demand for One Rank, One Pension was fulfilled. I also wish to express gratitude to the Dhami government for prioritizing the welfare of ex-servicemen, providing financial assistance to martyrs' families, and offering reservations in education and employment.”
He also referenced the decision to increase financial aid for Param Veer Chakra awardees from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore.
Discussing the Char Dham Yatra, Singh pointed out that the Centre is enhancing all-weather road connectivity, which will significantly benefit tourism and the local economy.
“As Uttarakhand is the Devbhoomi and the heart of our faith and culture, it is crucial to safeguard and uphold its sanctity. I urge all residents of the state to help protect Uttarakhand and enhance its sacredness,” he urged.
He further affirmed that the BJP governments at both the Centre and in the state have firmly opposed illegal immigration.
“Illegal immigrants have no place in Uttarakhand,” he stated, mentioning that under CM Dhami’s leadership, over 10,000 encroachments have been eliminated.
Touching on the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Singh remarked, “Under PM Modi’s guidance, India has consistently maintained that any resolution cannot stem from war but should be achieved through diplomacy and discussion.”
“Regarding India, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has elevated India's stature globally in an extraordinary manner, and the recognition he has received is still insufficient. Previously, when India made statements on international platforms, they were often overlooked. However, today, when India speaks, the world listens attentively. This is a moment of immense pride for every Indian,” he asserted.
Warning about the global repercussions of the conflict, the Defence Minister concluded, “No country will be left untouched during these challenging times. There may be an impending energy crisis, but I am confident that people will rally behind PM Modi’s stance for India.”
