Bengaluru, Oct 13 (NationPress) Renowned Kannada actor and theatre performer, Raju Talikote, aged 59, tragically passed away from a significant heart attack during a film shoot in the Udupi district of Karnataka on Monday.
Originally named Rajesab Maktumsab Yankanchi, Raju Talikote was also the Director of Dharwad Rangayana and achieved recognition in both theatre and cinema.
He is survived by two wives, two sons, and three daughters. His son Bharat informed the press that Raju Talikote had previously experienced heart issues but succumbed to a severe attack this time around.
Bharat expressed, “Though our father had two wives, we all grew up together in unity.”
The family has announced that the final rites will take place in Chikkasindagi village.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar conveyed his condolences, stating, "The passing of esteemed theatre actor, comedian, and Director of Dharwad Rangayana, Raju Talikote, due to a heart attack is profoundly saddening. His contributions to Kannada cinema and theatre have left a lasting impact, making his departure a considerable loss to the industry."
"I hope that God grants peace to Raju Talikote's soul and provides his family with the strength to endure this sorrow," he added.
Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai remarked, "The news of Raju Talikote's demise has brought immense sorrow. As a comedic performer, he won the hearts of many through his theatrical endeavors and made a significant mark in the film sector."
"His untimely death while fulfilling his role as Director of Dharwad Rangayana is an irreplaceable loss to the artistic community. I pray for strength for his family and fans during this difficult time," he expressed.
Born in 1965, Raju Talikote was raised in Talikote, which is where he adopted his stage name. His parents were also involved in the theatre, operating a troupe known as Shriguru Khasgateshwara Natya Sangha.
He received his education at the Shrigurukhasgateshwara Math in Talikote, where he began acting as a child. His schooling was interrupted by the death of his parents, leading him to work as a hotel and lorry cleaner before returning to theatre.
Raju gained proficiency in various aspects of stagecraft and continued his family’s drama troupe.
He authored numerous plays specifically for audio recording, achieving fame with the play 'Kaliyugada Kuduka', which had more than 15,000 performances. An audio cassette of the play recorded in the 1990s propelled him to stardom. He also found success with plays such as 'Kudukara Samrajya' and 'Hattigudi Lakkavva'.
His first marriage was to Prema, with whom he had two sons and one daughter. His second wife was also named Prema and they had two daughters, Shajeeda and Shabbu.
Raju Talikote made his film debut in 'Hendathi Andare Hendathi' and went on to appear in various films including 'Manasare', 'Pancharangi', 'Rajadhani', 'Lifeu Ishtene', 'Alemari', 'Myna', 'Topiwala', and 'Punjabi House'.
He was also a contestant on the reality show Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7.
