Chikkamagaluru, April 2 (NationPress) Distraught over his wife's abandonment, a man tragically took the lives of three individuals, including his own daughter, before ending his own life in the village of Magalur in Karnataka's Chikkamagaluru district.

The perpetrator has been named as Rathnakar, who worked as a school van driver.

After committing the heinous act, he retreated to a secluded area and shot himself late on Tuesday night.

Rathnakar fatally shot his seven-year-old daughter, Moulya, along with his 50-year-old mother-in-law, Jyothi, and 26-year-old sister-in-law, Sindhu.

Authorities reported that Rathnakar was profoundly affected by his wife's departure.

In a fit of rage, he invaded his in-laws' residence during the 'Hosa Toduku' festival celebration, resulting in the tragic deaths of his daughter and two relatives.

Sindhu's husband sustained injuries during the assault, suffering a gunshot wound to his leg, and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital located in Balehonnur town.

Police found a video recorded by Rathnakar prior to the incident. In the footage, he expressed his inability to cope with the anguish of his wife's departure and how much he cherished his daughter's happiness and love.

"At school, my daughter's friends inquire about her mother's absence. She often comes home asking me, 'Where is my mother?' Unbeknownst to me, she took a photo from our family album to show at school," Rathnakar said in the video.

He also mentioned that he had communicated his intentions to his family.

"My wife has betrayed and abandoned me for two years," he lamented.

Initial investigations by law enforcement revealed that Rathnakar’s wife had relocated to Bengaluru, leaving him and their daughter behind. He had enrolled his daughter in the same school where he served as a school vehicle driver.

During the festival, his mother-in-law, Jyothi, had taken Moulya from school to celebrate together.

There is a suspicion that Rathnakar believed his estranged wife had returned from Bengaluru and intended to harm her. However, in a moment of rage, he ended up taking the lives of his daughter and in-laws before turning the gun on himself, according to police reports.

The investigation is ongoing, led by the Balehonnur police.
