What Doctors Said
Medanta Director Rakesh Kumar confirmed that Mahant Nritya Gopal Das was admitted with respiratory problems and a urinary infection. 'Mahant Nritya Gopal Das was admitted to Medanta, Lucknow, on Monday with respiratory problems and a urinary infection. He was found to have a mild lung infection and a urinary infection, and treatment is ongoing,' Kumar said.
'His health is improving, and it is expected that within 3–4 days he will recover fully and return home,' Kumar added.
How the Hospitalisation Came About
Sharad Sharma, Media Coordinator of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, explained that the seer had been participating in a continuous series of birth anniversary programmes when he developed a mild fever on 29 June. 'Due to fatigue, he still remained seated on the stage. Given his advanced age and for a routine check-up due to fever, he was sent to Medanta Hospital on June 29,' Sharma said. 'As per information received, he is completely fine and is expected to return by this evening,' he added.
Government's Attention
According to Rakesh Kumar, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been regularly enquiring about the health of the senior seer, reflecting the political and religious significance of Mahant Nritya Gopal Das's role in the Ram Temple project.
A Pattern of Health Challenges
This is the second hospitalisation for Mahant Nritya Gopal Das in 2025. He was also admitted to Medanta Hospital in January this year due to health complications, from which he recovered following treatment. Notably, in April 2022, he was hospitalised with a urinary tract infection and was subsequently diagnosed with a kidney infection and chronic renal failure — a condition in which the kidneys are unable to function properly. He has also previously tested positive for COVID-19 and remained under medical supervision for several days before recovering.
