Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday, 1 August declared that insulting Bhagwa (saffron), sants, Lord Ram, or any element of Sanatan heritage is highly objectionable and constitutes a heinous offence. His remarks, made in Noida, came in direct response to a symbolic street-play protest staged inside Parliament the previous day.

The Parliament Protest That Sparked the Reaction

Independent MP Pappu Yadav arrived at Parliament on Friday dressed in saffron attire and enacted an alleged 'theft' of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Several Opposition MPs joined the demonstration, which took the form of a street play in which MPs acted as devotees placing money into collection boxes, while Yadav — portraying a priest — symbolically pocketed the funds to highlight alleged misappropriation of temple donations.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi was among those seen placing money into the collection boxes during the performance. An Samajwadi Party (SP) MP, acting as a devotee, then confronted Yadav over the symbolic act. The Opposition sought to press for a parliamentary discussion on the issue of alleged donation irregularities at the Ayodhya temple.

What Baba Ramdev Said

'Insulting Bhagwa, sants, Bhagwan Ram, or any part of our Sanatan heritage is highly objectionable and a heinous offence,' Ramdev said in response to the protest.

Asked separately about demonstrations staged under the banner of the Cockroach Janata Party over the NEET paper leak controversy, Ramdev said the use of abusive language runs contrary to Indian culture and values. 'Using abusive language is not part of India's culture or values. We should not make our children abusive; we should make them skilled,' he said.

On Protests Turning Anarchic

Ramdev extended his remarks to caution against protests devolving into disorder. 'If any movement turns anarchic, it does not bring any meaningful outcome. Instead, once the movement is over, it often creates long-term problems for those involved,' he said.

He called for dissent to be channelled through democratic and constitutional means. 'If we have to oppose something, it should be done through democratic and constitutional means while upholding human values. Every movement should aim to achieve a constructive outcome,' he added.

Broader Message on Accountability and Values

Ramdev also spoke about the shared responsibility of public figures and citizens alike, arguing that those in power must remain accountable while citizens fulfil their own duties. He called on parents and community elders to foster 'constructive thinking' over what he described as 'problem-oriented' or 'destructive' mindsets, urging a society-wide shift toward solution-focused approaches.

The remarks place Ramdev among prominent voices pushing back against the Opposition's temple-protest optics, and the episode is likely to intensify the political debate around both the Ram Temple donations controversy and the boundaries of symbolic parliamentary protest.
