Ranchi, June 2 (NationPress) - In a decisive action against a grave crime, the police in Ranchi have apprehended two individuals: an auto-rickshaw driver and his accomplice, in connection with the gang rape of a minor girl, announced SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha on Monday.
The incident took place on May 30, and both suspects were quickly taken into custody after the crime was reported.
According to SSP Sinha, the accused have been identified as Vinay Kumar Saw, 35, and Basant Kumar, 32.
Saw is originally from Soparam village in Chatra district but currently resides in Chatakpur, under the jurisdiction of Ratu police station in Ranchi. Kumar is from Hurhuri village, also within the Ratu police station area.
The victim, a minor from Gumla district, had reached Hatia railway station on May 30, planning to travel to Delhi. However, after a conversation with her mother, she opted to return home. She then approached an auto driver outside the station and requested a ride to Lalgutwa to catch a bus to Gumla.
The driver agreed on a fare but instead of taking her to Lalgutwa, he took a diversion.
When the girl questioned the route change, he deceitfully assured her that he would take her directly to her village. He then drove her to a secluded area in Chaura village under Chanho police station, where both he and his accomplice raped her.
The assailants later left the girl near a hotel in Murgu, under the Ratu police station, around 4 a.m. on May 31. Locals discovered her unconscious and notified the police, who quickly ensured her safety.
The victim recounted her traumatic experience to the police, prompting an investigation aided by the technical cell.
Both suspects were arrested, and authorities confiscated an auto-rickshaw, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones linked to the crime.
The investigative team comprised DSP Arvind Kumar, Inspector Ram Narayan Singh, SI Priyanka Kumari, and various personnel from the Ratu police station.
