Ranchi: National Khadi and Saras Mahotsav Wraps Up, Attendees Praise the Event

Ranchi, Jan 7 (NationPress) The National Khadi and Saras Mahotsav, which spanned 18 days, came to a close on Tuesday at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi.

During the event, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar remarked, “The festival stands as a testament to our rich cultural heritage and has also emerged as a vital platform for rural development and self-employment.

Over 500 stalls showcased their offerings at this year's fair, each named after trees indigenous to the forests of Jharkhand. Various government, non-government, and private entities, along with Khadi institutions, took part in the event. Throughout the festival's duration, more than 300,000 visitors graced the Mela site.

During this period, IANS spoke with attendees at the Saras Festival. Kunal Prasad shared his thoughts, stating, “Events like these should be held regularly, as they provide villagers a chance to attain financial independence. They also help in promoting local products, allowing people from across the nation to discover handmade items. Be it handicrafts, pottery, pickles, papad, or other rural goods, their branding and promotion nationally can assist villagers in receiving fair compensation for their dedication.”

He further added, “This festival aligns with our Prime Minister’s vision to uplift villagers and promote Khadi products. It can inspire individuals to embrace local goods, thereby bolstering the rural economy and enhancing the significance of indigenous commodities in the country.”

Visitor Sanjeev Kumar noted, “Mahatma Gandhi originally utilized the charkha against the British to promote Khadi, personally crafting his own garments. Khadi is incredibly comfortable; it keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. Such fairs serve to elevate products from rural cottage industries, showcasing items like papad and pickles.”

“Prime Minister Modi champions Khadi, and we should also adopt it, as it is a product of our nation. The mantra ‘Vocal for Local’ supports individuals involved in the Khadi sector, enabling them to sustain their livelihoods and enjoy a better quality of life. Khadi not only represents our heritage but also serves as a means to foster self-reliance,” he added.

Archana Kumari expressed, “Women are increasingly becoming self-sufficient. What they once did at home, such as making pickles or Khadi fabric, they now do externally. This not only aids in running their households but also promotes Khadi. We should utilize hand-woven fabrics and other Khadi products. Prime Minister Modi’s initiative is commendable and embodies the essence of ‘Vocal for Local’. This movement plays a crucial role in our nation's development.”

Dr. D. Kumar remarked, “It is essential to uplift rural communities. Regular events like the Khadi Mela enable local artisans to showcase and sell their homemade products. Prime Minister Modi is passionate about promoting Khadi, and we seek greater visibility for it, as this practice, rooted in Mahatma Gandhi's era, is fading away. Reviving it can empower villagers financially.”
