New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) First-time MLA Rekha Gupta has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi on Wednesday, concluding nearly two weeks of anticipation regarding the new CM.

Gupta, age 50, representing Shalimar Bagh, was chosen as the leader of the BJP legislature party during a meeting this evening, overseen by two central observers – former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJP National Secretary Om Prakash Dhankhar.

As the assembly commenced to select the BJP legislature party leader, there was significant speculation about a female legislator assuming the role. This speculation was confirmed with the election of Gupta, who becomes the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi following Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Sheila Dikshit (Congress), and Atishi (AAP).

Following her announcement as the next Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Gupta, her husband, and her supporters rejoiced.

Commenting on the occasion, the new CM’s husband stated, “The party has entrusted a significant responsibility. To meet this obligation, immense strength and collaborative effort are crucial. Today is a time for celebration, and work will commence tomorrow.”

Even prior to her name being revealed, festivities erupted at Gupta's residence. Gupta has a history as a former President of the Delhi University Students Union, municipal councillor, and Mayor of the former SDMC.

The newly appointed Chief Minister will take the oath of office during an elaborate ceremony at the iconic Ramlila Maidan at noon on Thursday. Rekha Gupta will be sworn in by Lt Governor Saxena, in the presence of prominent BJP leaders and representatives from allied parties on the stage.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12:34 p.m., with the Chief Minister's oath-taking planned for 12:05 p.m. Various key political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, along with over 200 BJP MPs and MLAs, as well as invited religious leaders, will attend the event.
