New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and party leader Atishi expressed their congratulations to Rekha Gupta, who has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi.

The uncertainty surrounding the next Delhi Chief Minister concluded on Wednesday evening with first-time MLA Rekha Gupta being selected as the leader of the BJP legislature party, clearing her path to assume the office.

Gupta, representing Shalimar Bagh, was elected during a meeting of the BJP legislature party, overseen by two central observers – former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJP National Secretary Om Prakash Dhankhar.

As the meeting commenced to select the BJP legislature party leader, there was considerable speculation about a female legislator taking on the role. This speculation was confirmed with the election of Gupta, marking her as the fourth female Chief Minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Sheila Dikshit (Congress), and Atishi (AAP).

In response to this development, Kejriwal posted on X, stating, “Congratulations to Rekha Gupta ji on being named the Chief Minister of Delhi. I anticipate she will honor all commitments made to Delhi's residents. We will back her in all efforts aimed at the progress and welfare of the people of Delhi.”

Former Delhi CM Atishi also took to X to extend her congratulations to the new CM. She remarked, “Congratulations to Rekha Gupta ji on assuming the role of Chief Minister of Delhi. It is a joyous occasion that Delhi will be governed by a woman. I trust that the pledges made to the people of Delhi will be realized. You will receive full support from Aam Aadmi Party for the advancement of Delhi.”

Rekha Gupta, the newly appointed Chief Minister, is set to take her oath during a grand swearing-in ceremony at the iconic Ramlila Maidan at noon on Thursday. She will be sworn in by Lt Governor Saxena, in the presence of prominent BJP leaders and allies on stage.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to occur between 11 a.m. and 12.34 p.m., with the Chief Minister taking her oath at 12.05 p.m. The event is expected to draw several key political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, alongside over 200 BJP MPs and MLAs, as well as invited religious leaders.
