Rescue Operation Saves 10-Year-Old Boy from Borewell in Madhya Pradesh

Guna, Dec 29 (NationPress) A 10-year-old boy, who fell into a borewell, was saved on Sunday following an overnight rescue mission conducted collaboratively by the NDRF, SDRF, and state police in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district.
The child was extracted during the early hours and transported to a hospital via ambulance; however, his condition remained extremely critical, as reported by Guna District Collector Jitendra Singh to the press.
The boy, Sumit Meena, had been flying kites with other children in a field close to his home in Pipliya village, located in Raghogarh town, when he fell into the borewell, becoming stuck at a depth of 39 feet on Saturday evening.
Upon receiving the alert, administrative officials and law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene. The SDRF unit was summoned from Guna, and the rescue efforts commenced late at night. Eventually, two teams from the NDRF arrived from Bhopal to assist in the operation.
A medical team from Guna District Hospital provided an oxygen supply through the borewell for the child, and five JCB machines were deployed to create a parallel excavation to reach him. After digging 40 feet, rescuers utilized their hands to create a passage between the pit and borewell to extract the boy. Unfortunately, he had ceased to respond by that time.
"Rescuers toiled throughout the night, digging a parallel pit to access the boy via a passage between the borewell and pit. The effort proved successful, and the boy is receiving medical care at Guna District Hospital," stated Raghogarh MLA Jaivardhan Singh.
The Guna district administration has yet to provide any updates regarding the child's health after his arrival at the hospital.
There have been numerous incidents in Madhya Pradesh over the past two years involving children falling into open borewells. In response, the state government has mandated that all borewells must be securely covered.
The government has also established strict penalties for borewell owners, regardless of whether they are the parents of the affected children. Inspections have been conducted across various regions of the state to identify open borewells.
Previously, a two-year-old girl fell into a borewell in Vidisha district. She was rescued after a three-day operation involving personnel from the Indian Army, but tragically, she had passed away by the time she was retrieved.
