Rescue Operation Underway for 10-Year-Old Boy Trapped in Borewell in Guna, MP

Guna (Madhya Pradesh), Dec 29 (NationPress) A 10-year-old boy has fallen into a 140-foot deep borewell in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district on Saturday, leading local authorities to swiftly commence a rescue effort, according to an official report.
The Guna police identified the boy as Sumit Meena, who slipped into the open borewell shaft while he was engaged in kite flying.
The incident took place in Pipliya village, which is approximately 50 km from the Guna district headquarters, around 5 p.m.
Guna Collector Satendra Singh confirmed that the borewell is around 140 feet deep. A parallel pit, measuring 25 feet deep, has been excavated in an effort to rescue the child.
It was noted that the borewell did not reach water, and consequently, no casing was installed, as stated by the Collector.
While local police and agencies initiated the rescue promptly, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived from Bhopal late Saturday evening.
Oxygen is being pumped into the borewell to assist the boy, Singh mentioned.
The family grew increasingly anxious when they could not locate him for a significant period.
After conducting a search, they discovered that he had fallen into the borewell, reported a local resident.
Updates regarding the ongoing rescue efforts are awaited.
In a related incident in Rajasthan's Kotputli-Behror district, a rescue operation is also taking place for a three-year-old girl named Chetna, who has been stuck in a 150-foot deep borewell since December 23. Her mother, Dholi Devi, has been praying for her child's safe return for over 110 hours.
A video surfaced on Saturday showing Dholi Devi desperately asking for help.
Initial rescue attempts using an iron ring attached to a rope were unsuccessful.
On December 25, a piling machine was brought to the scene, and a parallel pit was dug. However, heavy rain hampered rescue efforts on Friday.
Despite ongoing attempts, rescuers have been unable to provide food or water to Chetna, raising serious concerns about her survival. A medical team with an ambulance remains on standby at the site.
This incident follows another similar case two weeks ago in Rajasthan's Dausa district, where a five-year-old boy fell into a borewell. Although rescuers worked for over 55 hours, the boy could not be saved.
