Rajasthan: 3-Year-Old Girl Rescued After 10 Days from Borewell

Jaipur, Jan 1 (NationPress) Following an intense 10-day rescue effort, Chetna, a three-year-old girl who had fallen into a 700-foot-deep borewell in Kotputli on December 23, was successfully retrieved from a depth of 170 feet on Wednesday evening. Yet, officials have expressed that her chances of survival are critically low.
The operation, spearheaded by the district administration, required digging a parallel tunnel to reach the child. At 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday, NDRF rescuer Mahavir Jat emerged with Chetna, who was wrapped in a white cloth. She was quickly transported to Kotputli's BDM Hospital via ambulance.
This challenging endeavor encountered numerous hurdles, including over five unsuccessful attempts to rescue the girl. Concerns about Chetna’s well-being grew due to her lack of movement over the past eight days.
Collector Kalpana Agarwal noted that the borewell had tilted after a certain depth, complicating the rescue process. Experts from Delhi and Jaipur Metro were called upon to help locate and access the borewell. Initially, the tunnel was projected to require an 8-foot width but was later broadened to 12 feet to facilitate the operation.
Earlier, MLA Hansraj Patel maintained a hopeful outlook throughout the operation, indicating that the rescue was nearing its conclusion. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma closely monitored the situation to ensure all necessary resources were allocated.
Dayaram, Chetna's grandfather, commended the unwavering dedication of the administration and rescue teams, who labored tirelessly in the harsh winter conditions. He urged authorities to ensure that open borewells are secured to prevent future tragedies.
The route to BDM Hospital was cleared to guarantee prompt medical attention, and ambulances were on standby throughout the operation. The medical staff at BDM Hospital remained vigilant, ready to provide comprehensive care for the young girl.
Meanwhile, local residents raised concerns about the planning and execution of the rescue operation, questioning the delay in retrieving the girl.
Conversely, authorities reassured that there was no negligence involved, emphasizing that every possible effort was made to save the child.
