Chetna's Rescue Operation in Rajasthan Enters Its 9th Day Amidst Challenges

Jaipur, Dec 31 (NationPress) The effort to rescue Chetna, the 3-year-old girl trapped within a 700-foot deep borewell in Rajasthan's Kotputli, is becoming increasingly prolonged as the rescue mission encounters setbacks. It was discovered that the tunnel was incorrectly oriented, making it difficult to pinpoint the girl's location.
The digging operation, which is currently at a depth of approximately 170 feet, has strayed off its intended path, as confirmed by Collector Kalpana Agarwal, who stated that the exact location of the borewell has not yet been identified. Nonetheless, rescue teams are persevering, and officials report that they have not lost hope.
Over the last four days, a group of six rescue personnel has been laboring to create a 10-foot tunnel. Initially, challenges such as low oxygen levels and rock formations within the tunnel were cited. However, the emergence of information indicating the tunnel was being excavated in the wrong direction has raised concerns regarding the operation's planning.
On December 30, both the Collector and NDRF expressed optimism that Chetna would soon be rescued. The family, clinging to this hope, has remained by the borewell throughout the day.
Chetna, from Badiyali ki Dhani in Kiratpura, fell into the borewell while playing on December 23. She has endured hunger and thirst while trapped at a depth of about 120 feet.
As the rescue operation experiences delays, Chetna's family and local villagers have voiced accusations of negligence against the administration. They believe that quicker action could have resulted in an earlier rescue. In response, Collector Kalpana Agarwal met with the family on Monday evening around 6.30 p.m. to clarify the challenges faced during the rescue. She assured them that the authorities are making every effort possible and that expert assistance is being sought. She recognized the operation's complexity, explaining why it is taking longer than anticipated.
"We have not lost hope yet, and we will continue to do our best," stated Collector Agarwal. Multiple expert teams have been called in to reevaluate the operation.
Although the location of the borewell has not yet been determined, efforts will persist to locate it by expanding the tunnel's diameter and adjusting its direction as necessary.
