Chetna Stuck in Borewell for Over 96 Hours, Rain Complicates Rescue Operations

Jaipur, Dec 27 (NationPress) In a harrowing incident, Chetna, a 3-year-old girl, has been trapped in a borewell in Kotputli at a staggering depth of 120 feet for 96 hours without any food or water. Her rescue efforts have extended into the fifth day, facing significant challenges due to heavy rain and logistical issues.
A parallel pit, approximately 170 feet deep, has been created using a piling machine. As of 9:30 a.m., a 162-foot-long pipe has been inserted into the pit, with plans to attach an additional 8-foot segment.
Upon completion, specialized 'rat miners' are expected to enter the pipe to construct a 20-foot horizontal tunnel that will connect the pit to the borewell.
The operation has encountered multiple setbacks due to rain and rocky layers that have obstructed the excavation process, according to Kotputli-Baharod district collector Kalpana Aggarwal, who has noted that these unpredictable conditions have complicated the rescue efforts.
Chetna fell into a 700-foot borewell on Monday. Initial rescue attempts using makeshift tools managed to raise her by 30 feet but ultimately fell short of completely rescuing her.
For the past three days, she has remained at a depth of 120 feet, showing no signs of movement, while officials have remained tight-lipped regarding her condition.
Modern rescue equipment began to be deployed on December 24 after earlier attempts proved ineffective.
However, progress has been sluggish, and the family has voiced their frustration regarding the delays and alleged negligence on the part of the authorities.
In a distressing turn of events, Chetna’s mother has reportedly lost consciousness due to stress, with other family members also in turmoil.
Despite the challenges, rescue teams remain hopeful that the operation will conclude successfully in the near future.
Just two weeks ago, a five-year-old boy fell into a borewell in Dausa district of Rajasthan, with a rescue operation that lasted over 55 hours. Tragically, the boy did not survive by the time he was pulled out.
