Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Criticizes Centre for Inaction on Kaleshwaram Project Controversy
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 29 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday questioned the Centre's inaction against former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao and ex-Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, despite the state government having assigned the CBI to investigate purported irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project.
During his address in the State Legislative Assembly, he urged BJP leaders from the state to bring this issue to the Centre's attention.
He pointed out that it has become a routine for BRS legislators to exit the House after making suggestions.
The Chief Minister's comments came in response to BJP member Venkataramana Reddy's support for a House Committee to investigate claims of corruption and illegal mining involving Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.
As the BRS pushed for a House Committee inquiry, a BJP member proposed that the Congress government should accept this demand for the smooth operation of the House.
In his remarks, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recounted the allegations made by BJP leaders that the Kaleshwaram project had turned into an ATM for KCR.
"It is not only us; even the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister have asserted that KCR's family is implicated in the misappropriation of funds from the Kaleshwaram project. Union Minister Kishan Reddy claimed that if the CBI investigates the Kaleshwaram case, KCR and Harish Rao would be arrested within 48 hours. Trusting their assertions, we indeed referred the Kaleshwaram case to the CBI," he stated.
The Chief Minister expressed frustration that the Centre has yet to take any action against KCR and Harish Rao, even after several months.
Revanth Reddy accused the BJP of colluding with the BRS, claiming that the two parties shared votes and seats during the Parliamentary elections. "BJP leaders should consider offering suggestions only after ensuring that KCR and Harish are imprisoned in the Kaleshwaram case," he insisted.
The Chief Minister also alleged that Harish Rao's younger brother, Mahesh Rao, intimidated private industry owners in Balanagar, Mahabubnagar district, and illicitly transferred hundreds of acres into his name using the 'Dharani' portal.
"If Mr. Harish Rao agrees, we are ready to form a House Committee to investigate this issue. If KTR and Venkataramana Reddy genuinely believe that Harish Rao is innocent, they should support the establishment of a House Committee," he added.
Members of the ruling party voiced strong objections to the BRS's interference in proceedings regarding the demand for a House Committee to investigate illegal mining allegations. They emphasized that the government has already demonstrated its commitment by ordering a CB CID inquiry into illegal mining activities dating back to 2014.
Minister for Legislative Affairs D. Sridhar Babu stated that a House Committee was unnecessary, given that the government had initiated a CB CID inquiry itself.
