Kolkata, Oct 25 (NationPress) The father of a victim from RG Kar expressed his outrage on Saturday regarding the recent suicide of a doctor in Satara, Maharashtra, insisting that the culprits should face execution in front of the hospital to deter similar incidents in the future.
In an interview with IANS, he stated, “The actions of the accused are unforgivable, and they must be held accountable. They should be shot right outside the hospital where this tragedy unfolded.”
He emphasized the need for a decisive message to be communicated that such crimes will not be accepted and must not occur again. “There should be a police encounter in this instance,” he added.
Additionally, he condemned the Women’s Commission, which took up the case, claiming, “They are ineffective; they merely file cases without follow-up. They visited our situation too, yet there was no outcome.”
In the meantime, law enforcement in Satara district of Maharashtra apprehended one individual on Saturday linked to the female doctor's death, who reportedly took her own life after enduring repeated sexual assaults by a police officer while being pressured by a Member of Parliament to fabricate medical reports for the accused.
The suspect has been identified as Prashant Bankar, the son of the doctor's landlord, whose name appeared in her four-page suicide note.
The deceased doctor, hailing from Beed district, was serving as a medical officer at a government facility in Phaltan, Satara. On Thursday evening, she was discovered hanging in a hotel room under suspicious circumstances. Disturbingly, she had inscribed a note on her palm, naming Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar, accusing the police officer of sexual assault and Prashant of emotional distress.
Following Prashant's arrest, police announced that he would be presented in court, seeking custody for further inquiries. Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Badane has been suspended, and an extensive investigation is in progress. Both individuals have been charged at the Phaltan Police Station. Satara SP Tushar Doshi confirmed that the allegations of rape and Prashant's involvement are under thorough scrutiny.
The female doctor who allegedly took her life left behind a comprehensive four-page suicide note, in addition to the inked message on her palm, detailing that a police officer had assaulted her multiple times and coerced her into issuing fraudulent fitness certifications for individuals involved in police cases. Her note revealed that she was pressured not only by police officials but also by a Member of Parliament and his aides.
Despite lodging 21 complaints with different authorities, no action was taken against the individuals who tormented her.
In her note, she recounted an instance where she declined to issue a certificate, leading to two aides of the MP confronting her at the hospital and forcing her to speak with him on the phone. She claimed that during that call, the MP indirectly threatened her.
Her cousin corroborated the allegations that the doctor was coerced into falsifying medical certifications.
