Did the Hospital Alter the Medical Report of the RG Kar Rape-Murder Victim's Family?

Kolkata, Aug 11 (NationPress) The father of the RG Kar rape and murder victim asserted on Monday that the private medical facility modified the cause of injury concerning his wife, who sustained harm due to police action during the August 9 'Nabanna Avijan (march to the state secretariat).

His wife had incurred a head injury and was subsequently admitted to the private hospital for care. She was released from the medical facility on Sunday.

The father contends that the hospital altered the medical documentation, as the patient's description of the injury was omitted from the discharge report. Following concerns raised by the father and their legal counsel to the hospital administration, the medical report was revised to include the mother's complaint.

According to established protocols, when a patient is admitted for treatment following an injury, the attending physician is obligated to inquire about the cause of the injury. At this juncture, the patient's account should be documented in the medical report.

The mother alleged that the police had assaulted her, leading to her injuries. However, upon reviewing the medical report at her discharge, the police-inflicted injury was unmentioned.

Upon objecting, the father prompted an amendment to the medical report, which now acknowledges the injury caused by police action.

"The report I reviewed upon discharge differed from the one I signed during my wife’s admission. The discharge report only indicated that her injury was due to an accident in a rally, neglecting the police action. This necessitates a formal complaint," the father stated.

There has been no official response from the private hospital regarding the father's accusations.

The family is contemplating escalating the matter to the Calcutta High Court, which is anticipated to hear the case on the same day.

The Calcutta High Court had requested the state's affidavit regarding the case initiated by the family, which seeks a re-investigation into the murder and rape of their daughter at RG Kar Hospital. The matter is set for hearing on August 11.

The first anniversary of the horrific rape and murder of a woman doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was overshadowed by significant violence following a clash between police and protesters partaking in the Nabanna Avijan. Tragically, the victim’s mother required hospitalization after falling ill amid the police crackdown on the demonstrators.

The victim's mother claimed she was assaulted by police officers when she, her husband, and other protesters endeavored to march towards Nabanna. The victim’s mother and BJP leaders alleged that during the police action, her sacred conch shell-bangle, a traditional symbol of married Hindu women, was broken.

City police commissioner Manoj Verma stated on Saturday that they are currently reviewing CCTV and video recordings to determine the veracity of the claims regarding the victim's mother's assault.
