Kolkata, Aug 10 (NationPress) The health status of the mother of the RG Kar rape and murder victim, who suffered injuries during a police confrontation amid the 'Nabanna Avijan (march to state secretariat)', has been reported as stable on Sunday.
Sources from the private medical facility where she is currently hospitalized indicated that she might be discharged either later today or by Monday.
Initially, there were discussions about transferring her to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Kalyani in Nadia district for enhanced care.
However, the family opted against this after consulting with medical professionals, as AIIMS Kalyani is approximately 70 kilometers away from her current hospital.
"Her condition is stable, and all medical parameters are normal. If her health remains stable throughout the day, she may be treated at home," a hospital source mentioned.
Meanwhile, the victim's family is considering pursuing legal action against the alleged police attack and intends to bring the issue before the Calcutta High Court.
"Family attorney, Phiroze Edulji, is expected to visit the victim's mother at the hospital on Sunday to discuss potential legal strategies. The family aims to address this matter in the Calcutta High Court during Monday's hearing related to the rape and murder case," the source added.
The first anniversary of the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was overshadowed by significant unrest in the streets of Kolkata and Howrah, following clashes between law enforcement and demonstrators participating in the march to the state secretariat.
Tragically, the victim's mother ended up in the hospital after falling ill during the police action against the demonstrators.
She claimed she was assaulted by police officers while attempting to join her husband and other protesters in marching towards Nabanna.
The victim's mother and BJP leaders asserted that during the police action, the sacred conch shell-bangle on her wrist, a traditional symbol of married Hindu women, was broken.
It is important to note that the Calcutta High Court has requested the state's affidavit in response to the family's plea for a re-investigation into their daughter's murder and rape at RG Kar Hospital. However, the state has asked for additional time to submit this affidavit, which was originally due on July 24.
The judge expressed frustration at the state for not complying, postponing the matter for further hearing on August 11.
