Kolkata, Aug 12 (NationPress) The father of the RG Kar victim has reached out to the Kolkata Police via email, urging them to register an FIR against the police following the alleged assault on his wife during the 'Navanna Avjijan' march on August 9.
On Tuesday, Kolkata Police confirmed they received the complaint through an email sent on Monday night to the Shakespeare Sarani police station.
According to the complaint, the victim's father claimed that during the Navanna Avijan (march to the state secretariat), his wife sustained injuries to her hand. He further alleged that police officers struck her on the head and back. After she experienced severe discomfort due to these injuries, she was admitted to a private hospital located in the Mukundapur area on the outskirts of South Kolkata.
The father’s complaint also accused both the police and hospital staff of being uncooperative. It was noted in the complaint that his wife was kept under observation for 24 hours without receiving an injury certificate. When she was finally discharged, the medical report failed to mention the injury certificate, instead only noting a 'head injury' without acknowledging the police involvement.
This led the father to formally lodge a complaint against the Kolkata Police.
“We have received an email regarding this matter. An investigation is underway,” stated a senior officer within the city police.
The first anniversary of the horrific rape and murder of a female doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Saturday was overshadowed by significant violence resulting from clashes between police and protesters involved in the Nabanna Avijan.
The victim’s mother alleged that police officers assaulted her after she and other protesters attempted to march towards Nabanna alongside her husband. The mother, along with BJP leaders, claimed that during the altercation, a sacred conch shell-bangle on her wrist, which symbolizes married Hindu women, was shattered.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma mentioned on Sunday that they are currently reviewing CCTV and video footage to determine if the victim’s mother was indeed assaulted.
