Kolkata, Aug 12 (NationPress) Following a lack of effective response from local authorities, the father of the victim from RG Kar approached Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma on Tuesday, armed with a complaint letter.
He has claimed that he faced harassment while attempting to file a report concerning an alleged police assault on his wife during the recent 'Nabanna Avijan' (March to the State Secretariat).
Consequently, the victim's father emailed his complaint to the City Police Commissioner.
"I am profoundly saddened and shocked that there has been no progress over the past year. Exactly one year ago on August 9, my only daughter was brutally murdered. This year, on the same date, my wife was attacked. She is currently suffering from headaches and is unable to stand. Despite the numerous challenges we have faced, Kolkata Police continues to mislead us. I urge you to register a zero FIR and refer it to the appropriate police station," he stated in his letter.
On Monday night, he emailed his complaint to the Shakespeare Sarani police station in Kolkata.
However, on Tuesday afternoon, he claimed he was informed that he needed to file his complaint at the Park Street police station.
Later, he received yet another message indicating he should contact the New Market police station.
Anticipating that he might be redirected multiple times to different police stations, the victim's father insisted on a zero FIR this time and directed his complaint to the Kolkata Police Commissioner directly.
The first anniversary of the rape and murder of a junior doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which occurred on August 9, was overshadowed by significant violence following clashes between police and protesters during the 'Nabanna Avijan'.
The victim's mother accused the police of assaulting her when she, along with her husband and fellow protesters, attempted to march toward Nabanna (State Secretariat).
Moreover, both the victim's mother and BJP leaders claimed that during the police action, the sacred conch shell-bangle on her wrist, which symbolizes married Hindu women, was broken.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Verma stated on August 10 that they are currently reviewing CCTV and video footage to determine whether the victim's mother was indeed assaulted.
