New Delhi, Oct 6 (NationPress) Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday criticized the Congress and other opposition factions for their continuous attacks on the Indian armed forces and for expressing doubts about their capabilities. He emphasized that this negative stance will not earn them the trust of the populace. Rijiju described their behavior as unfortunate and asserted that such parties will never be entrusted with power by the nation.
His comments were a direct response to Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai, who questioned the government and military claims regarding the success of Operation Sindoor.
Recently, Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh disclosed that Indian forces successfully downed both US and Chinese-made fighter jets in Pakistan during a four-day military operation in May.
Responding sharply to Rai's remarks, Rijiju told IANS, "It is unfortunate that whenever our top Army officials react to Pakistan, Congress and opposition leaders criticize our armed forces even before Pakistan does. Can you imagine such a situation?"
He pointed out that while Pakistan spreads lies and misinformation, India's armed forces respond with strength and integrity. However, the opposition seems to align with Pakistan, continually questioning the military's operations.
"When Pakistan spreads falsehoods, our Air Force, Army, and Navy retaliate effectively. Yet, before Pakistan can even respond, Congress begins targeting our soldiers. Our forces are steadfast in defending the nation, yet they face unwarranted criticism from within. Nothing could be more unfortunate than this," Rijiju stated.
The Union Minister noted that while political parties are entitled to question the government, attacking the armed forces crosses a line.
"It was acceptable for Congress and some other opposition parties to challenge the government, but now they are speaking against the nation itself. The people of India are wise; they recognize that parties disparaging our armed forces and echoing Pakistan's sentiments are detrimental to the nation. Such parties will never find a place in power among the citizens of India," he asserted.
Rai's comments faced significant backlash from the BJP, which accused him of undermining the military and casting doubt on its integrity.
Earlier, Rai had remarked to IANS, "The CDS says one thing, the Army Chief says something different, and various officers provide conflicting statements. This clearly indicates something is amiss. The truth should be disclosed to the nation openly, and the whole matter should be clarified by PM Modi."
The BJP has subsequently charged Congress with demoralizing the armed forces and aiding India's adversaries through its statements.
