New Delhi, May 24 (NationPress) The Minister for Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, announced on Saturday that the Rising Northeast summit has successfully attracted a remarkable investment of Rs 4.3 lakh crore. This signifies the beginning of a significant journey aimed at fortifying the North Eastern Region (NER) and transforming it into a pivotal engine of India's advancement.
While addressing the Rising Northeast Investors Summit, Scindia revealed that representatives from 80 nations took part in the event. He remarked, "The meaning of the acronym NER has evolved. It now symbolizes the New Economic Revolution of India and the New Economic Revival of India."
The Minister clarified that the funds raised during the summit do not include those from the 'Advantage Assam 2.0' initiative.
Highlighting the region's historical neglect over the past 60 years since Independence, he recalled former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's assertion that India's emergence in the new millennium would stem from the Northeast.
Expressing his gratitude, Scindia stated, "In a global conference held in Shillong in 2000, former PM Vajpayee sowed the seeds, which have flourished under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, creating a substantial banyan tree, of which 'Rising Northeast' is one of the fruitful outcomes."
He noted, "We have ascended from the 11 largest economies to becoming the fourth largest economy globally," expressing optimism about India's ascent on the international stage under PM Modi's guidance.
Scindia emphasized PM Modi's emotional connection to the region, asserting that he is committed to making North India a catalyst for economic development.
Contrasting the 60 years of neglect post-Independence with the 11 years under the Modi administration, Scindia mentioned that Union Ministers have visited the area 730 times since 2014.
He stressed the region's importance, stating, "The Northeastern sector of our nation is a mosaic of diversity, resources, and an exquisite tapestry. Historically, this corner of Akhand Bharat has facilitated trade, culture, music, tradition, and religion between the northern and southern parts of the country for many years."
According to the minister, the Northeast can not only offer growth and shelter to its 4.5 crore inhabitants across the eight states but also has the potential to serve as India's growth engine for the next 25 years.
PM Modi inaugurated the summit on Friday.
