Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) The Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 along with its pre-event roadshows has successfully garnered an impressive investment interest totaling Rs 4.48 lakh crore for the northeastern region, as reported by the Minister of State for the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Sukanta Majumdar, during a Lok Sabha session on Wednesday.
Held in Delhi on May 23-24, 2025, the summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Responding to inquiries in the Lok Sabha, Majumdar elaborated that the DoNER Ministry orchestrated the two-day summit to boost trade and investment opportunities in the northeastern states.
He highlighted that the summit pinpointed various key sectors aimed at attracting investments, which included tourism and hospitality, agro-food processing, textiles, healthcare, education, IT/ITeS, and infrastructure.
According to the minister, the summit and its accompanying roadshows resulted in an investment interest of Rs 4.48 lakh crore through numerous memoranda of understanding (MoUs), letters of intent, and potential leads from a mix of private investors, public sector undertakings, and major industrial groups.
Majumdar expressed confidence that these proposed investments would significantly enhance the industrial capabilities of the northeastern region, creating substantial job opportunities.
The state governments in the Northeast are actively collaborating with investors to transform this investment interest into tangible projects.
He also mentioned that various initiatives have been implemented by northeastern states to facilitate investments, such as single-window clearance systems, the establishment of investment promotion agencies, and the creation of land banks along with various incentives for investors.
To fortify the industrial ecosystem and attract private investments, the Government of India is rolling out the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialisation (UNNATI) scheme.
This scheme offers several incentives, including Capital Investment Incentives, Central Capital Interest Subvention Incentives, and Manufacturing and Services Linked Incentives.
Additionally, the Union Ministry of DoNER has formed multiple high-level task forces to pinpoint crucial interventions and develop actionable strategies for the integrated advancement of the North East Economic Corridor. These task forces were established after the 72nd plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC), convened in November 2024 in Agartala, under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Shah.
