Patna, Nov 5 (NationPress) In a surprising turn of events, Congress candidate for the Aurangabad Sadar Assembly seat, Anand Shankar, faced a significant blow when Suresh Mehta, the former RJD district president and ex-MLA, announced his resignation from all roles within the RJD and made the decision to join the BJP.
This move is viewed as a potential game-changer that could influence a substantial voter base in the constituency, posing challenges for the Grand Alliance candidate.
During a press conference, Mehta expressed feelings of being consistently overlooked and disrespected within the party. He stated that despite his years of dedication, he felt unappreciated by the RJD leadership.
Mehta revealed that his mentor, Shakuni Chaudhary, along with senior NDA leaders, had been encouraging him to switch sides. He emphasized that during his tenure as the RJD district president, the Grand Alliance secured victories in all six Assembly seats in Aurangabad district, and now he is committed to ensuring the success of BJP candidate Vikram Narayan in Aurangabad Sadar.
Simultaneously, the Grand Alliance has undertaken a strategic counter-offensive.
Lalan Paswan, the sitting BJP MLA from Bhagalpur’s Pirpainti Assembly constituency, joined the RJD in Patna, with Tejashwi Yadav and Rabri Devi present, after being denied a ticket by the BJP.
The RJD welcomed him with party membership and the symbolic gamcha of the party. RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed asserted that Paswan’s inclusion would bolster the party’s fight for social justice.
Tejashwi Yadav accused the BJP of exploiting Dalits for political gain without genuinely supporting their rights and representation.
Paswan, who stirred controversy in 2020 by claiming that Lalu Prasad Yadav had contacted him from prison, left the BJP on October 16, citing a lack of space for vocal Dalit leadership within the party.
In Pirpainti, the RJD has nominated Ramvilas Paswan to challenge BJP’s Murari Paswan, with Ghanshyam Das (Jan Suraj Party), Sunil Kumar Chaudhary (BSP), and Pritam Kumar (AAP) also in the race.
Voting in Pirpainti is scheduled for November 11 in the second phase.
