Patna, Nov 29 (NationPress) The outcome of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections has significantly worsened the existing rifts within the Grand Alliance.
Following a devastating defeat at the polls, both the RJD and Congress have started to openly assign blame for the electoral failure.
Discontent intensified after a Congress evaluation meeting in Delhi, where the party is said to have held the RJD responsible for the loss.
On Saturday, the divide grew even wider when RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal openly questioned the Congress’s role within the alliance.
Mandal claimed that the Congress obtained seats and garnered votes solely due to the RJD's backing.
“If Congress wants to pursue a different political path, let it — it will soon realize its true strength,” he remarked.
He pointed out that in 2020, Congress requested 72 seats and contested 70, yet even the 19 seats it won were attributed to the RJD's support.
His statements have reignited speculation about a potential split between the two parties.
Congress leaders firmly rejected Mandal’s assertions.
“If Congress is so feeble, why does RJD keep us in the alliance?” a senior leader questioned. They suggested that if Mangani Lal Mandal had issues, he should have discussed them with Tejashwi Yadav, the chairman of the Grand Alliance coordination committee, rather than voicing them publicly.
In the 2025 Assembly elections, Congress contested 61 seats and secured only six. Additionally, it encountered “friendly contests” with alliance members on over ten seats, further diminishing its chances.
Meanwhile, the RJD has convened a critical meeting of its MLAs on Saturday evening at the residence of Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.
This meeting is expected to finalize the opposition’s strategy for the approaching legislative session.
As tensions have become public, the pressing question in Bihar’s political landscape is whether the RJD and Congress are on the brink of a split — which would signify a significant realignment in state politics.
