Jammu, Feb 4 (NationPress) In a series of three consecutive robberies in the Jammu division of J&K, armed assailants made off with 1.5 Kg of gold from a jewellery store, Rs 50,000 in cash from a retail outlet, and Rs 19 lakh from a local bank.
On Saturday, two armed individuals stormed a jewellery shop located in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu city.
Arriving on a motorcycle, they took the shop owner hostage, shattered the display windows, and fled with 1.5 Kg of gold in broad daylight.
On Sunday, criminals pried open the shutters of another store in Jammu city and absconded with Rs 50,000 found in the cash drawer.
The following Monday evening, a heist occurred at the J&K Bank branch situated in the Dachan area of Kishtwar district, where thieves stole Rs 19 lakh.
Officials reported that unidentified individuals made off with cash from the J&K Bank branch in Dachan on Monday. Approximately Rs 19.56 lakh was taken from the branch, which is typically isolated during the winter months.
“Efforts are ongoing to identify the perpetrators,” officials stated.
“CCTV footage is currently under review, and an investigation has commenced. The Station House Officer (SHO) of Dachan police station has arrived at the scene and initiated the inquiry under FIR 01/2025 u/s 331/305-(4) BNS,” officials confirmed.
Last month, a man was shot dead by assailants in the Jewel Chowk area of Jammu city.
Authorities indicated that the murder was linked to a gang conflict between two factions of criminals and was not related to militancy.
Gang conflicts among criminal groups are not a new phenomenon in Jammu, with mafia members historically targeting each other.
Over time, law enforcement has succeeded in mitigating these feuding factions; however, such crimes persist in Jammu city, where land mafias are infamous for seizing government property, unlawfully occupying land belonging to law-abiding citizens, and extorting payments for vacating occupied land.
