New Delhi, Nov 3 (NationPress) Romania has announced its intention to establish a pathway for the employment of around 30,000 skilled Indian professionals annually, in accordance with the country's labour demands, as stated by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Monday.
Meetings held in Bucharest involved discussions between Minister of State for Commerce & Industry Jitin Prasada and Romania’s Minister of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity Petre-Florin Manole.
“Both countries acknowledged Romania's yearly requirement for approximately 100,000 non-EU workers and expressed their willingness to develop a pathway for about 30,000 skilled and ambitious Indian professionals each year, tailored to Romania’s sectoral labour market demands,” the statement affirmed.
The ministers reiterated their dedication to establishing a robust mobility partnership between India and Romania, promoting safe, orderly, regular, and responsible migration of skilled professionals to enhance labour market connectivity for mutual advantage.
Additionally, they agreed to fortify people-to-people connections through enhanced collaboration in higher education, research, innovation, think tanks, and cultural exchanges. This aims to encourage talent circulation, support skills development, and invest in future generations.
The dialogue included areas of cooperation in recruitment, language and vocational training, standardized employment contracts, and employer responsibilities, alongside expedited processing for verified employers. Officials from both sides were tasked with exploring mutual recognition of qualifications. Recognizing the significance of social security stability, they also deliberated the potential for a Totalisation (Social Security) Agreement.
Both parties committed to advancing this momentum by activating enablers across essential pillars: expanding skills mobility, deepening knowledge exchange, engaging business communities, and reinforcing institutional frameworks—ensuring that the India–Romania partnership remains integrated, resilient, and results-oriented across trade, technology, and interpersonal cooperation.
Prasada is on an official visit to Bucharest upon the invitation of the Romanian government to participate in the 19th meeting of the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) between India and Romania.
He emphasized that with over one billion working-age individuals and a median age of 29, India is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2030.
As the fastest-growing major economy, India continues to contribute to global prosperity as a reliable partner for both developed and developing nations. He pointed out that India, as a rapidly growing manufacturing and technology hub, accommodates nearly 45 percent of global capability centers and is making significant investments in frontier technologies. In this regard, he stressed that enhanced India–EU collaboration is increasingly critical in the evolving geopolitical and geoeconomic landscape, the statement concluded.
