New Delhi, Oct 23 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed that a remarkable rebate totaling Rs 9.17 crore has been utilized by 3,635 consumers under the Delhi Jal Board's Water Amnesty Scheme.
In a post shared on X, the Chief Minister noted that Rs 6.56 crore in dues have been settled by water consumers under this scheme.
On October 14, CM Gupta inaugurated the 'Late Payment Surcharge Waiver Scheme' and the 'Unauthorised Connection Regularisation Scheme', which grants domestic water consumers a waiver of up to 100% on late payment surcharges.
This surcharge waiver on outstanding bills is accessible until January 31, 2026.
She stated, "Both schemes have provided significant relief to Delhi residents and aim to enhance the public-friendliness and transparency of the water management system," while detailing these initiatives.
In her post, CM Gupta mentioned, "The government has reduced penalties for unauthorized domestic consumers from Rs 25,000 to just Rs 1,000, and for commercial connections, from Rs 61,000 to Rs 5,000. This change will facilitate the connection of millions of consumers to future schemes and ensure a consistent water supply."
She emphasized that the Delhi Jal Board's system is being revitalized and modernized, making the water distribution system more efficient, accountable, and technology-driven through a new billing system, transparent revenue management, and the establishment of 34 new divisions.
CM Gupta criticized the previous AAP government for allegedly "curbing" the DJB's powers and hindering development.
"Nearly half of Delhi relies on unauthorized water pipe connections in unregulated colonies. Previously, development work files would be shuffled between desks, but no real progress occurred on the ground," CM Gupta noted.
During this announcement, PWD Minister Parvesh Verma underscored the government's initiatives to enhance the water supply system in the national capital.
