New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar issued a stern warning to the Opposition members on Thursday, indicating that serious action would follow if they continued to show 'disrespect' to the President’s message and sustained the ongoing disturbance in the House.

When the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was presented, protests erupted from the opposition benches. The Chairman's call for maintaining decorum went unheeded as some members of the opposition congregated in the well of the House, persistently raising slogans.

The uproar persisted even while the Vice President and the House Chairman read out the President’s message.

“Do not exhibit disrespect towards the President of India,” Dhankhar admonished the protesting opposition members.

He subsequently appealed to the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mallikarjun Kharge to direct them back to their seats. Despite his appeal, the tumult continued, compelling him to issue a strict warning to the unruly lawmakers.

“You have been present long enough. Do you wish for me to take ultimate action? Return to your seats. You are compelling me to take serious measures. The repercussions will be severe,” Dhankhar stated.

After a 10-minute adjournment, the House reconvened, leading to a heated exchange between the government and the Opposition concerning the JPC report on the Waqf Amendment Bill.

Various opposition lawmakers asserted that sections of their dissent notes were excluded from the JPC’s report, a claim the government denied.

LoP Mallikarjun Kharge raised concerns about the alleged omission of dissent notes, labeling the action as condemnable and unconstitutional.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju swiftly countered these accusations, asserting that no dissent notes were removed from the report.

“All JPC meetings were conducted in a fair and transparent manner. The allegations are unfounded; there was no breach of any rules. Do not mislead the House,” Rijiju declared.
