Rajya Sabha Suspended for the Day Amidst Government-Opposition Clash Over Jagdeep Dhankhar and Soros

New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) The Rajya Sabha sessions were brought to a halt for the day after a commotion erupted from the opposition parties concerning a no-confidence motion aimed at House Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
At the commencement of the session, opposition MPs shouted slogans and disrupted the proceedings, insisting on a discussion regarding the motion.
During the uproar, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju criticized the Congress over the impeachment notice, labeling the accusations against the Chair as “baseless”.
He stated that the treasury benches would defend any attempts to undermine the honour and dignity of the Chair.
The Minister raised concerns about the supposed connection between US hedge fund magnate George Soros and Congress, asserting it poses a risk to national security. “You associate with forces that are against the nation. A notice has been issued against the Chairman. It is rare to find such a Chairman. He has consistently advocated for the welfare of the poor and upheld the Constitution. We will not permit this drama of notice to succeed. What is the link between Soros and Congress? This must be disclosed...Congress should apologize to the nation,” he stated.
This incited loud protests from the Opposition, who accused the government of obstructing proceedings to shift focus.
Chairman Dhankhar attempted to continue with the planned agenda, but the opposition's noise led him to adjourn the House until noon.
Once the House reconvened, the chaos persisted, resulting in the House being adjourned for the day.
Union Minister J.P. Nadda remarked, “Our members (MPs) have been highlighting the connection between Sonia Gandhi and Soros. This pertains to the sovereignty of the nation….Introducing a no-confidence motion against the Chair is a strategy to divert the nation’s attention from issues concerning sovereignty…This should be condemned universally. They have never shown respect for the Chair...”
The Opposition INDIA bloc submitted a no-confidence motion against Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to the Secretary General of the Upper House on Tuesday.
The opposition claimed that the Chairman has been leading the proceedings of the Upper House in a significantly partisan manner, leaving them no option but to take this extraordinary step.
