Thiruvananthapuram, March 31 (NationPress) Following its scrutiny of Mohanlal, the RSS-linked publication Organiser has now directed its criticism towards actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran regarding his highly awaited film Empuraan.

In a recent article, the RSS mouthpiece Organiser accused Prithviraj of aligning with "anti-national" sentiments, referencing his involvement in the Save Lakshadweep initiative that opposed certain policies of the Union government related to the islands.

According to the article, "His double standards are evident," as he chooses to remain silent on local matters like the Munambam case, where hundreds of Christian families face eviction by the Waqf Board, while vocally opposing the CAA yet overlooking Hindu persecution in Bangladesh.

The publication also takes issue with Empuraan for allegedly biased portrayals of the events surrounding the 2002 Godhra train incident. Furthermore, it questions the choice to name the film’s villain ‘Bajrangbali’—a name associated with Lord Hanuman—who is represented as the Union Home Minister.

In light of the backlash, the filmmakers have decided to implement last-minute edits to the film. Industry insiders suggest that the revised version—set for release by Monday evening or Tuesday—will omit a three-minute scene showing an attack on a pregnant woman. Additionally, the antagonist’s name may be changed or muted in the dialogue.

These modifications are being managed by Qube Cinema, which is preparing to distribute an updated digital print to all cinemas and screening venues.

Meanwhile, the silence of Empuraan's scriptwriter Murali Gopy has raised questions, with sources indicating he is significantly affected by the controversy.

A Kerala Minister, who spoke anonymously to IANS, noted, "We are approaching a point where criticizing a particular party or its leaders is increasingly difficult. This is not a healthy indicator for democracy."

Prithviraj's mother, veteran actress Mallika Sukumaran, has publicly defended him, asserting that she instilled strong values in her sons. "He would never do anything to hurt anyone," she stated, also expressing that Mohanlal could have addressed the issue more promptly.

"I also question whether vested interests are driving this matter," she commented.

Despite the ongoing discussions, Empuraan continues to attract audiences, with theatres across Kerala reporting full houses.
