Sagar (Madhya Pradesh), Feb 24 (NationPress) - In a shocking incident, a group of unknown attackers reportedly invaded the grounds of Dr. Hari Singh Gour University in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, violently assaulting five students in broad daylight, according to officials on Tuesday.

The attack occurred between 1:20 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Monday, during a time when the campus was filled with students. It’s worth noting that the Civil Lines police station is situated just a kilometer from the university grounds.

As per a First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Civil Lines police station on Monday evening, the injured students have been identified as Hari Ayyappan, Bittu Mahto, Narayan Shukla, Shukhram Yadav, and Ankit Shah.

The complaint was lodged by Hari Ayyappan, a student from Kerala enrolled in a BA (Hons) program at the university and residing in a campus hostel. He claimed to have recognized two of the assailants - Kapil Swami and Avinash Gupta - who are reportedly associated with a right-wing organization.

“As we headed to meet the university proctor, we noticed a large crowd gathered near a tree. Upon our arrival, about 8-10 individuals suddenly attacked us,” Ayyappan reported in the FIR.

He accused the attackers of using abusive language, physically overpowering them, and assaulting them with sticks, plastic pipes, and other objects. The assailants allegedly threatened them before escaping the scene in vehicles, including a car with the registration number MP-11 T5553 and a Royal Enfield motorcycle with the number MP-15MV7713.

Police have named Kapil Swami and Avinash Gupta, both residents of Sagar, in the FIR. However, no arrests have been made thus far, and authorities have stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.

Despite the violent incident occurring on campus among hostel residents, the university administration has yet to release a formal statement. Attempts to reach Dean Yashvanth Thakur were unsuccessful, and university proctor Chanda Bain declined to comment, stating she was with the students during the incident.

Videos circulating on social media depict students being assaulted and pleading for assistance from university staff. In one clip, a student can be heard crying out, “Sir, we are students. They are beating us. Please help us.”

Last week, members of the AISF reportedly encountered disruptions while organizing an event on “Sex Education,” during which posters and banners, including those featuring Bhagat Singh and Hari Singh Gour, were allegedly vandalized.

Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway, with further actions planned based on evidence and witness testimonies.
