Sanand, February 5 (NationPress) - Authorities in Gujarat's Sanand executed a raid on a private weekend residence near Ahmedabad, resulting in the arrest of 81 individuals for allegedly hosting a liquor and hookah party that breached the state's prohibition regulations, as reported on Thursday.
The operation took place at Nirvana Greens Weekend Home located near the Goras Seem area of Sanand on Wednesday night, acting on precise intelligence gathered by law enforcement.
Officials stated that the gathering was masqueraded as a celebration for the 25th wedding anniversary of an individual identified as 'AV', attracting a significant number of guests.
According to the police, the event was hosted at an opulent farmhouse featuring multiple food stations and 11 tables arranged for attendees.
At the venue, liquor, hookahs, and a celebratory cake were allegedly provided.
Upon receiving the intelligence tip, a police team conducted an unannounced raid under the guidance of senior officials.
"Upon entering the venue, confusion erupted among the guests, leading to the detention of everyone present for further legal action," an official commented.
A total of 81 individuals, comprising 43 men and 38 women, were apprehended. Most detainees were reported to be between the ages of 35 and 40 and included several affluent and influential attendees.
During the operation, police confiscated a significant quantity of evidence from the location.
The confiscated items included eight sealed liquor bottles, seven partially filled bottles, three empty bottles, over 10 hookahs, 70 glasses, eight small containers of hookah flavors, and 33 boxes of hookah materials.
Additionally, law enforcement seized 22 luxury vehicles parked at the farmhouse and 74 mobile phones found on-site.
The total estimated value of the seized items is around Rs 2.91 crore. "All detained individuals were taken for medical evaluations as per standard protocols," the official added, noting that tests were being conducted to assess alcohol consumption and verify identities.
The men and women were transported to the Sanand government hospital for medical tests during the night.
After the medical evaluations, the women were released with a notice, while the men were retained for further legal procedures.
An offense has been filed under the Prohibition Act, and police are conducting an investigation to identify the party organizer, the ownership of the weekend residence, and the source of the liquor and hookah supplies.
Further actions will be determined after receiving medical reports and completing initial inquiries, according to police.
