New Delhi, Oct 31 (NationPress) On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has highlighted two significant attacks on the Iron Man of India in 1939 and criticized the Congress for concealing this truth for a staggering 86 years.
The revelations regarding the perilous assaults on Sardar Patel emerged after historian Rizwan Kadri discussed the theme of 'unveiling hidden history' on Friday, emphasizing a documentary panel that brings to light the two fatal attempts on Patel’s life, which had been obscured for decades.
Rizwan Kadri, who is currently working on a documentary about this topic, stated, "A noteworthy historical disclosure about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is now showcased at the Statue of Unity. A new documentary panel unveils the details of the two dangerous attacks on him, exposing a conspiracy that had remained hidden for 86 years."
He further added, "The documentary panel reveals the alleged political conspiracy, orchestrated by local princely states and the Muslim League, that was behind the attempts on Sardar Patel's life."
The BJP, quick to seize on these revelations, targeted the Congress, questioning why it kept this information secret for 86 years.
Pointing fingers at the Muslim League, the BJP asserted that the organization orchestrated two lethal attacks on Sardar Patel – the first in Vadodara (January) and the second in Bhavnagar (May 1939), while the Congress government of that time buried the truth for its own convenience.
Further criticizing the previous governments for concealing the conspiracy to assassinate Sardar Patel, the BJP emphasized that the true ‘Lauh Purush’ remained resilient and dedicated to the unity of Bharat, undeterred by attempts on his life and conspiracies.
“History must document the truth, not a version edited by the Congress,” stated the BJP in a post on X. The series of posts by the party unveil the conspiracy against the Iron Man.
The violent attacks on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel occurred in 1939, during a pivotal moment in the nation’s freedom struggle. It was a time when Sardar Patel was uniting princely states through his Prajamandal movement. The Muslim League resorted to violence under the guise of religion, leading to deadly attacks on him and his supporters, while the Congress chose silence and went on to ‘erase’ the conspiracy in the post-Independence era.
The first critical attempt occurred on January 20, 1939, as his procession moved through Mandvi (Vadodara).
“Goons backed by the Muslim League shouted 'Sardar Go Back!' and hurled stones at his car. The Prajamandal office was set ablaze — a state-sponsored effort to suppress Patel’s growing influence. And the Congress? Silent,” remarked the BJP.
The subsequent attack happened in Bhavnagar on May 14, 1939, when Patel arrived to lead the Fifth Praja Parishad. A mob affiliated with the Muslim League, allegedly aided by the local princely establishment, assaulted his peaceful procession from a local Nagina Masjid.
“This was a premeditated conspiracy. Patriots Bachu Virji and Jadavji Modi were martyred while safeguarding Sardar. Numerous individuals were injured in the violent attack. Nevertheless, Patel addressed the gathering that evening with calm determination, paying tribute to the fallen. Even in the face of such violence, he never strayed from the path of unity,” the BJP detailed in another post.
According to the series of posts, two individuals were sentenced to death for the assassination attempt on Patel’s life, but what is more disheartening is that the 'Congress historians' erased the case from textbooks and archives.
“This is the true history of 1939 — where the Iron Man stood resolute while political opportunists catered to divisive forces. No one dared to mention the Muslim League’s role or the Congress’s cowardly silence,” the BJP highlighted.
