Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 13 (NationPress) – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody Abhisek Sen Gupta, who serves as the Assistant Manager and Loan Officer at the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Gumi branch in Assam's Kamrup (Rural) district. He is accused of soliciting and accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 16,000 from a complainant, as confirmed in a statement released on Friday.
As per the CBI's announcement, the agency initiated the case on March 12 after receiving a complaint alleging that Gupta sought an illicit advantage of Rs 16,000 to expedite loan applications for clients requesting financial aid for rooftop solar electrification projects.
After verifying the claims, the CBI set up a trap and caught Gupta in the act of demanding and receiving the bribe from the complainant.
In the wake of the arrest, officials conducted searches at Gupta's residence as part of the ongoing investigation.
The detained officer is scheduled to appear before the Special Judge's court for CBI cases in Guwahati. Investigations are still underway, as stated by officials.
This incident is part of the CBI's persistent efforts to combat corruption within public institutions.
Earlier this week, the agency also apprehended one of its inspectors in Delhi regarding a bribery allegation, reaffirming its commitment to a strict anti-corruption stance.
Inspector Deepak Phalswal, stationed in Delhi, was taken into custody on March 10 after being accused of soliciting illegal payment from a private individual in exchange for not pursuing a complaint supposedly lodged with the CBI.
An internal investigation was launched following the receipt of this complaint, leading to the officer's arrest. Searches at his residence reportedly uncovered incriminating documents and electronic evidence. He was subsequently presented before a competent court, which permitted the CBI to hold him for two days of police custody for further questioning.
