New Delhi, April 9 (NationPress) The Supreme Court has provided no relief to the expelled BJP UP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar as it declined to entertain his request for bail or expedited consideration of his appeal currently before the Delhi High Court.

A bench comprising Justices P.S. Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi rejected the special leave petition for bail on the basis that Sengar's appeal, which is pending at the Delhi High Court, has been postponed multiple times without any meaningful advancement.

The Justice Narasimha-led Bench informed Sengar's legal counsel that a bail order would not provide him relief since he is already serving a sentence in other cases.

Without providing any instructions regarding the pending appeal, the apex court proceeded to dismiss Sengar's special leave petition.

Sengar's appeal against the trial court's ruling in the Unnao rape case remains under consideration at the Delhi High Court, where he is seeking reliefs such as the annulment of the trial court's judgment on December 16, 2019, which found him guilty, and the sentencing order on December 20, 2019, which sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The trial court had convicted Sengar on various counts under the IPC and imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh.

Furthermore, in March 2020, a special court sentenced Sengar, alongside his brother Atul Singh and five others, to 10 years imprisonment in two cases associated with the death of the Unnao rape survivor's father in 2018. The court found them guilty of multiple offences, including conspiracy, culpable homicide, destruction of evidence, creation of false records, wrongful restraint, and violations of the Arms Act.

The trial commenced on August 5, 2019, following the Supreme Court's order to transfer all five related cases from Unnao to Delhi. The apex court mandated that the trial be conducted on a daily basis and conclude within 45 days. Following his conviction, Sengar was expelled from the BJP and disqualified from the Assembly.
